Some cultures will have a lot of information available on the Internet while others do not. Here are some strategies to try when searching for local information on specific cultures.

Contains 8,000 to 12,000 word essays on specific culture groups in the United States, emphasizing religions, holidays, customs, and languages in addition to providing information on historical background and settlement patterns. Also covers ethnoreligious groups such as Jews, Chaldeans, and Amish. Each essay lists organizations and research centers; name, address, and contact information for periodicals, radio, and television stations; and a further readings section.

U.S. Bureau of the Census
Provides links to statistics on specific ethnic groups and demographic data on the Phoenix Metropolitan Area through the American Community Survey.
Lexis-Nexis Statistical
Indexes statistical tables, plus indexing to additional statistical information produced by the U.S. government, state governments, international organizations and selected private and academic sources.

AP Digital Photo Archive
Approximately 700,000 current and historic photos drawn largely from the Associated Press database of images. The archive includes contemporary news images, historical figures, celebrities, and images drawn from key events of the 20th century. The earliest photograph available was taken in 1840. Updated daily.
Google Image Search - Advanced
Currently indexes more than 425 million images. Easy to use. Includes advanced image search.
Flickr
Search among millions of images to locate visual respresentations of your topic.
Your final project includes a PowerPoint presentation. Remember that you need to let your audience know the source of your information whether it comes from a book, an article, the Internet, an image, or a personal interview, etc. Be sure to prepare a bibliography slide at the end of your presentation.
RefWorks
RefWorks is a user-friendly database system that allows you to manage your citations via the Web. You can create, search and maintain your own personal citations database. These citations can then be easily inserted in papers or presentations, and bibliographies can be genereated in a wide-variety of citation styles.

Organize the information you discover about your cultural group with Inspiration. This concept mapping and diagraming software is available on ASU public computers and a trial can also be downloaded free for 30 days.
