Research Consultations

Do you need advice or assistance with conducting effective library research for a project or paper?
Do you want to learn time-saving strategies for identifying, evaluating and documenting information sources?
Are you dissatisfied with the results your searching has produced?

We provide both
1) in-depth research consultations between you and a specific librarian and
2) immediate or "on-demand" general research assistance through staffing of our physical and virtual reference services.

Research Consultations: In-Depth Assistance

If you are doing extensive research or are encountering difficulties consider contacting the liaison librarian who supports your academic discipline.

Research consultations are extended individualized (or even small-group) interactions with a librarian.
Research consultations focus on your personal research question(s).
Research consultations can occur in-person at the librarian's office or through e-mail or telephone conversations.
Research consultations provide you the opportunity to ask multiple questions and gain in-depth, advanced help with specific research tools.
We recommend that you pre-schedule the appointment for a day and time that is mutually convenient for you and the librarian.
Research consultations with Fletcher librarians are available to all ASU students, faculty and staff.

General Research Assistance: "Immediate" Help

Fletcher Library offers on-site general research assistance at our Reference Desk and virtual service through the ASU Libraries' "Ask a Librarian" service.

The Ask a Librarian page always provides information about current reference service hours.

These "on-demand" services do not require a scheduled appointment - immediate assistance is given a first-come, first-served basis.
Reference Desk staff can be contacted in-person or by telephone.
Availability for both services includes night and weekend hours.
"Ask a Librarian" is chat-based, features co-browsing and offers the most service hours.
