What are the Library Hours?

Library hours vary by semester and day of the week. See current Fletcher Library Hours.

Where can I get food near the library?

Beginning Fall Semester 2006 there will be a Starbucks Café in Fletcher Library. Hours are yet to be determined.

Other campus dining services include (see Hours of Service):

  • Café West: located in the University Center Building (UCB).
  • Sand Trap Snack Bar: located in the Sands building on the southwest corner of the Sands courtyard.

There are also several vending machines on campus that sell snacks and drinks. The following are always available:

  • Drink machine and snack machine in alcove on east side of the CLCC building.
  • Snack machine at north end of the Sands breezeway.

Where can I find an ATM near the library?

There is an ATM located within the library (fees apply). Additionally, there is a Bank of America ATM located just south of the bookstore.

Where should I park when I go to the library?

Convenient permit parking while visiting the Fletcher Library includes parking lots 1, 2, 3, and 20 - to the south and east of the library. Any Tempe campus parking permit allows parking in any of the West campus student permit lots at any time.

Visitor parking is available in parking lot 12, just north of the WIB building, charges apply. Parking meters, with a four hour maximum, are located at Lot #6, just to the west of the library. Other parking options are also available. See Special Event / Visitor Parking.

Where is Fletcher Library?

Fletcher Library is located on the south end of ASU's West campus.

How many books or videos may I check out?

The number of items that you may check out is determined both your patron type (i.e. are you student, faculty or community borrower?) and the type/location of the material borrowed.

For ASU students, faculty and staff there is no limit on the number of books that can be checked out at one time. The limit for videos, laserdiscs or DVDs is 10.

For Community Card holders there is a limit of 15 total items, including up to 10 videos, laserdiscs or DVDs.

How long may I check out materials for?

The loan period is determined by both your patron type (i.e. are you student, faculty or community borrower?) and the type/location of the material borrowed. In general, 14 days is the minimum loan period for circulating books.

Where do I return library materials? / Can I return materials from another ASU library at Fletcher or Fletcher materials at another ASU library?

Regular circulating books can be returned to any University Library Circulation desk or bookdrop. Reserve materials must be returned to the Circulation desk of the library that they were checked out from. Reserve materials may not be placed in a bookdrop. Interlibrary Loan materials acquired through Fletcher Library should be returned at the Fletcher Library circulation desk or at the Hayden Library Interlibrary Loan desk. For videos, CDs and special permission loans, consult with the library you borrowed them from for return policies.

There are three drop boxes for Fletcher Library:

  • After Hours Drop Box: Located at the northeast entrance of the library. Available when the library is closed.
  • Inside Drop Box: Located adjacent to the Circulation Desk on the northeast side of the first floor. Available during library hours.
  • Outside / Drive-up Drop Box: Located on the west side of the library, near the north entrace of parking lot six. Available 24/7. Media may NOT be returned at this location.

How do I access library resources from home?

Nearly all online library resources are accessible from off-campus using your ASURITE ID and password.

When selecting a resource that requires ASU authentication you will be confronted with a screen that asks for your ASURITE ID and password. Upon entering valid information you should have access to your selected resource for the duration of your browser session.

  • The Accounts and E-Mail webpage provides more information regarding your ASURITE ID and other ASU Accounts.

Faculty and staff may also use the IT provided SecuRemote VPN software to establish a trusted virtual private network. Once connected, users will not have to enter ASU authentication to access subscription resources.

How do I appeal a fine?

You may use the online appeal form, fill out an appeal form at the Library Circulation Desk, or send a letter to the library. Appeals may be made within one-year of the original billing date.

How do I link my email address to library services and notices?

You may link your email address to your library account by logging into your library account. Then click on the add/modify email button.

How do I check my library account / record?

You review your library record by logging into your library account. From there you may change or view account information including your email address, items checked out, preferred searches, etc.

How do I cite sources in APA, MLA, or other styles?

Quick guides for citing sources have been created by the library staff and are available online.

How do I get a proxy card / enable another person to conduct my library transactions.

ASU students, faculty and staff may authorize another person to act as their proxy for library transactions. A proxy application can be filled out online. However, since a signature is required, the application must be printed and brought to the Library Circulation Desk.

How do I get help with my research?

There are many ways to get research help -- in person, by phone, by email, and by chat reference.

How do I manage my library account?

You may log-in to manage your library account. After entering your log-in information you may change or view account information including your email address, items checked out, preferred searches, etc.

How do I pay a fine?

Bring a check or cash to the Circulation Desk at Fletcher Library, the Billing Office at Hayden Library or any cashier's office.

You may also pay online but will be charged a convenience fee if paying by credit card.

How do I print at Fletcher Library?

All library users may print at Fletcher Library. See Printing and Copying in the Library for a detailed description of services and costs.

How do I put items on reserve?

Faculty may request that print and/or digital reserves be made available to students.

A Reserve Request can be submitted using an Electronic Form or the Paper Form (pdf) may be submitted to the Circulation Desk.

How do I renew books and other library items?

You renew books and some other library items by logging into your library account. After logging-in, click on the "Checked Out Items" button. Scroll down to see checked-out items. You may "Renew All" or "Renew Selected".

VHS, DVDs, and some other items are NOT renewable.

How do I reserve a group study room?

ASU students may use the Online Form - Reserve Student Group Study Rooms to book a study room in the library or around campus.

 
 

How do I request articles from another ASU Library (ILLiad)?

If an article is not available from the Fletcher Library but is available from another location within the ASU library system (Hayden, Science, Polytechnic, etc.) you can use ILLiad to have a copy of the item sent to the Fletcher Library or digitially delivered. It usually takes 2-3 business days.

How do I request/borrow books from another ASU Library?

If a book is not available from the Fletcher Library, but is available from another location within the ASU library system (Hayden, Science, Polytechnic, etc.), you can request that the item sent to the Fletcher Library.

ASU students, faculty, and staff may use the ASU Libraries Catalog "request" button to order the item. Just search for the book that you want. After bringing the record up for the individual title click on the "request button". You will have to log-in with your ASURITE ID and password.

Community Card holders need to contact the Circulation Desk for assistance.

Document Delivery usually takes 2-3 business days.

How do I request/recall books that are already checked out?

Items currently checked out by other patrons may be "recalled" by ASU students, faculty, and staff.

Through the ASU Libraries Catalog, use the "request" button to "recall" a book that is currently checked out. Just search for the book that you want. After bringing the record up for the individual title click on the "request button". You will have to log-in with your ASURITE ID and password.

Community Card holders need to contact the Circulation Desk for assistance.

Note: the person who currently has the book checked out will be given 15 days to return it.

How do I request/borrow a book, video, or article from a non-ASU Library (ILLiad)

If you find a book, video or article that is not located in the ASU library system, ASU Libraries can usually obtain the item from another library for you using InterLibrary Loan. This process can take a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on the item and its location. This service is not available to Community Card holders.

How do I request a video from another ASU Library?

If a video is not available from the Fletcher Library, but is available from another location within the ASU library system (Hayden, Science, Polytechnic, etc.), you can request that the item sent to the Fletcher Library.

If you need a video for a specific date there is a Media Booking service that you might find useful.

How do I request a video for use on a particular day?

ASU students, faculty, and staff may "book" a video for use on a specific day via the Media Booking Request Form.

NAU and UofA students and faculty as well as UCC faculty may also book videos.

How do I borrow library-owned media equipment?

Fletcher Library has a small selection of electronic equipment that is available for checkout at the Library Circulation Desk. For booking and details on this service, see the Small Media Equipment webpage. This service is available only to West campus students, faculty, and staff.

How do I search for Articles?

To search for articles you must first select the appropriate database. Once your database is selected you may search by title, keyword, subject, etc.

To get a listing of databases by subject, title or other characteristics, use the Database Finder. This resource provides descriptive information about each database.

If you need help, Ask-a-Librarian by phone, chat, email, or in person.

How do I search for Audio Recordings?

You search the ASU Libraries Catalog for audio recordings.

Audio recordings are increasingly available via internet subscription resources such as the Naxos Music Library.

How do I search for Books?

The library subscribes to several Photo & Image Databases that provide access to visual content.

How do I search for Reserve Materials / find items on Course Reserves?

Digital Course readings are available through Docutek ERes.

Print material may be on reserve at the library. Bring the call number of the item that you need to the circulation desk. You may find the call number of the item by Professor's Name or Course Number.
