The collection also contains a core collection of traditional "classical" music, spoken word recordings (such as poetry and speeches), sound effects, and recordings in other types of music.
The Music Library on the Tempe campus houses a broader and deeper collection of music materials including books, musical scores, journals, and videorecordings. The extensive collection of recordings in the Music Library focuses on classical, ethnic, jazz, and folk music. Recordings from the Music Library circulate for 3 days. Use the Request function in the online catalog to have items in the Music Library delivered to ASU West for your use. Use Keyword searching to locate recordings by a particular song title (" Stairway to Heaven") or subject words ("Bach cantata*"). After performing a Keyword search, use the Catalog's Limit option to limit results to material type "Music record" or "Spoken record"
Compact discs in the Fletcher Library media collection are filed in drawer cabinets, adjacent to the video cabinets, first floor west.
These CDs are arranged using a classification system that groups recordings by type of music (such as Jazz, Rock, Musical Shows, Opera, etc.).
Within types, the CD classification system arranges recordings alphabetically by composer or performer, then by title of the work, and finally by an accession number. All call numbers are preceded with the format designator "CD".
Here is a sample compact disc call number and what it represents:
